Police incident 20/11/2023

I would just like to bring to your attention an incident which occurred in Swannington.

Shortly before 8pm yesterday (Monday 20 November), police were called to an address in Main Street, Swannington by the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Ambulance staff reported some concerns around the behaviour of the occupant and that there was a smell of gas coming from the address.

In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service also attended.

A 44-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of making threats to commit arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody and enquiries are continuing.

As a precaution, several neighbouring properties were safely evacuated for a short time. The occupants were taken to a safe place where welfare was provided. Those residents have since returned to their homes.

I would like to thank the residents who were displaced for their patience and understanding and offer reassurance that presently there are no wider concerns. The incident appears to be an isolated incident and not directed towards any other members of the public.
