Changes to Arriva Bus Service

Arriva have submitted these changes to the Traffic Commissioner to take effect from January 4th 2021.

Outlined below is an assessment of the changes.

Arriva 15, Coalville - Ibstock

• Alternate journeys will be extended to Ravenstone, this will be in replacement of the 29A. The bus will serve Ravenstone via Coalville Lane, Wash Lane/A447, Leicester Road, Ashby Road and Church Lane. There will be no reduction in the frequency of journeys.

Arriva 29, Leicester – Coalville – Burton upon Trent

• Since the pandemic the service has been terminating at Swadlincote Bus Station rather than Burton upon Trent. Arriva will be making this change permanent. Passengers will be able to interchange in Swadlincote for onwards travel.
• Arriva will make permanent the service levels introduced during the pandemic. This represents a reduction in the number of Leicester to Coalville journeys in operation prior to the pandemic.
• With the exception of S29 closed school journeys Church Town (Ashby Road) will no longer be served, the bus will instead continue along the A512. Alternative stops are available to Church Town residents on the A512 at The Cedars and The Moor.
• In Ashby de la Zouch the section of Moira Road and Kilwardby Street between Derby Road and Bishop Hall Road will no longer be served. The bus will take an alternate route via Smisby Road, Marlborough Way, Burton Road and Bishop Hall Road (Bellway Development).

Arriva 29A, Leicester – Coalville – Burton upon Trent

• Since the pandemic the service has been terminating at Swadlincote Bus Station rather than Burton upon Trent. Arriva will be making this change permanent. Passengers will be able to interchange in Swadlincote for onwards travel.

• The number of journeys will remain at a similar level.
• With the exception of S29 closed school journeys the bus will no longer serve Ravenstone. Residents will instead have access to the service 15 for journeys to Coalville where they will be able to interchange for onwards travel. The 15 will not use the section of Ashby Road between Ravenstone and the A511 as is currently included in the 29A route. No stops are located on this section of road.
• In Ashby de la Zouch the bus will take an alternate route via Smisby Road as far as Marlborough Way, it will then travel along Marlborough Way followed by Burton Road and Bishop Hall Road (Bellway Development) before continuing towards Swadlincote via Norris Hill and Blackfordby. The bus will no longer travel along the northern section of Smisby Road and the A511/Ashby Road between the Smisby Road roundabout and Hepworth Road. The stops on Ashby Road no longer served by the 29A will continue to be served by the Midland Classic 9.

Arriva 29X, Leicester – Coalville

• There will be minor timing changes for the Sunday service only.

For your reference I have attached the registration documents that have been submitted to the Traffic Commissioner by the operator, these will show the 29A Coalville to Burton upon Trent service as being cancelled. This is an administrative process only with the 29A journeys actually being incorporated into the registration for the service 29.
